InMotion Review
InMotion is a popular US-based web hosting provider, with a plan for almost everyone: shared hosting, a WordPress and BoldGrid-based graphical website builder, managed WordPress, managed and cloud VPS, reseller plans, managed and bare metal dedicated servers, high-end enterprise products, and the list goes on.
Low-end shared hosting plans have some significant limitations, especially with disk space, email accounts, and databases. For example, the Lite plan offers unlimited bandwidth, a free domain, free SSL, cPanel site management, and easy WordPress installation via Softaculous. But you're limited to 10GB of storage, two databases, and an email account with just a 100MB inbox, all for $2.49 a month over three years, $7.49 upon renewal.
The higher Launch, Power, and Pro plans are mostly limited (database, supported websites, subdomains), improving performance, adding additional e-commerce support, and (for the top-of-the-range Pro plan) about 99.9%. %sla. Designed for small businesses, the Power plan costs from $4.99 per month for 50 websites, 100GB storage, 50 email accounts in the initial term ($13.99 upon renewal), and the Pro plan (100 websites, 200GB storage, unlimited email accounts) The price is $12.99 per month on the three-year plan and renews at $22.99.
If you're looking purely at range and title features, there may be better deals elsewhere. HostGator's Baby plan supports unlimited domains and email addresses with unmetered storage and bandwidth, and costs $3.95 per month over three years, which renews at $9.95.
InMotion has more performance-enhancing features than many shared hosting competitions, however, including NGINX caching, PHP-FM support, and the option of two data centers; one on the East Coast of America, one on the West. If speed is the priority and you can live with InMotion's limitations, it might just turn the balance in your favor.
If you're still a little unsure, InMotion's exceptional 90-day money-back guarantee gives you enough time to confirm that the company delivers on its promises. As always with hosting, there are a few complications (the dedicated server and monthly-billed hosting plans only have a 30-day guarantee, domain registrations aren't included at all), but nothing you'd expect, and overall InMotion's guarantee looks far too generous at best.

InMotion WordPress hosting
Some hosts' WordPress hosting plans are, basically, little more than a regular shared hosting plan pre-installed with WordPress.
InMotion's WordPress range goes a long way with some very capable features that you won't always find anywhere else.
There is free migration of existing WordPress sites; Automatic WordPress and plugin updates, CDN integration, and WordPress-specific performance optimization.
If you're not a WordPress expert, BoldGrid provides you with a template-based website builder with drag-and-drop editing.
A staging environment enables you to create and work on a copy of your site, allowing you to change themes, switch plugins, or perform other major tasks without affecting your production site.
Staging is an advanced feature that is not included in the WordPress plans of some hosts (Hostgator), others reserve it for the more expensive premium plan (Bluehost).
However, InMotion includes everything we've described here, with its most basic plan, priced from $6.99 over two years, upgrades to $8.99, a basic site with 50GB of storage and support for up to 20,000 visitors a month. covers together.
The company says its WPS-2000S plan offers the best value with two websites, 100GB of storage, and support for up to 50,000 visitors a month, plus JetPack Personal (themes, CDN, social media integration, spam filtering, daily backups) Including) for $9.99 per month over two years, renewing at $12.99.
InMotion Servers
InMotion's VPS hosting plans and dedicated servers do seem a little more expensive than some of the competition, but they're well-specified, and great value for the functionality you get.
Managed VPS plans include free server migration, cPanel and WHM control panels, and automated server backups, while InMotion handles low-level server management and security updates. Prices start at $29.99 per month over two years ($44.99 upon renewal) for 4GB of RAM, 75GB of storage, and 4TB of RAM, while the most powerful setup comes with 8GB of RAM, 260GB of storage, and 6TB of bandwidth at $83.99 a month over two years. , comes with $129.99. on renewal.
Cloud VPS unmanaged plans give you full root access to your servers if you know what you are doing and can manage the servers yourself. Plans start at $5 per month over three years for a 1GB RAM, 1 core, 25GB storage, and 1TB bandwidth setup, or $20 for 4GB RAM, 2 cores, 80GB storage, and 4TB bandwidth.
There are also some unusual options and features. VPS plans include the option of PHP or WordPress speed optimization, so you can get the best possible performance for your preferred technology.
Managed plans also include 'Launch Assist', an InMotion feature that lets you spend two hours of dedicated time with a system administrator to help you with any task (site migration, app installation, email and security software setup, and more) gives.
InMotion's dedicated server range gives you plenty of options, with both managed and unmanaged plans, a good range of base servers with multiple configuration options, and prices starting at $99.99 per month on the annual plan.
Like shared hosting, InMotion isn't the cheapest provider, and sometimes misses out on this category (no Windows hosting.) However, you get a lot for your money, and the plans offer good value overall. Huh.
InMotion Signing up
InMotion has a lot of hosting products on offer, but the website does a good job of presenting them to potential customers and making it clear what you will get.
For example, the business shared hosting page contains only a basic feature summary and a simple title price. Scroll down and you'll find an in-depth comparison table for the category, an explanation of key features, comparisons with competing hosts, and details on starting monthly prices and subscription lengths. (If you're tired of hosts telling you a plan is "$5.99 per month" but not the length of the contract, you'll appreciate InMotion's added transparency).
We chose a plan, entered your details, handed over your cash (card, PayPal, US purchase order, or check are supported), and our account was activated within minutes.
InMotion then sent us a welcome email with details of the service. With no scary technical details like nameservers or FTP credentials, it takes a more beginner-friendly approach than it usually looks. Instead, you get a basic link to your account control panel and log-in information, as well as some introductory PDFs titled 'Starting a new website' and 'Moving your website'
These guides do their best to keep things simple, explain the basics of what to do next, and with links to more resources.
For example, if you have an existing website, the 'Transferring' PDF has a few paragraphs on transferring your site via cPanel or FTP, setting up email, updating your nameservers, and testing the results. It's all pretty straightforward, and the links point you to helpful support documents along with more in-depth guidance.
InMotion Account Management Panel
InMotion's Account Management Panel (AMP) is a nice-looking web console with everything you need to manage your hosting account and webspace.
Colorful icons point to panels for you to update payment details, change your password, manage domains, submit support tickets, and more.
Website-related icons include options to edit DNS records, automatically install WordPress and other apps, manage SSL, and more.
Alternatively, if you know what you're doing, you can simply launch cPanel and take control using all of its standard tools (file manager, phpMyAdmin, FTP setup, SSH access, and more). Huh.
It is not as well designed as it looks. Most icons open a new website page, for example, slowing down operations and ensuring that you can't easily see related information all at once. To view notifications related to your account, for example, you need to click an account information icon, then click a link to display the popup, then close the popup and return to the previous page. It would be easy to display notifications and popups directly from the main page.
Once you learn how AMP works, it's not a big deal. And if you launch cPanel directly by bookmarking, you can avoid AMP altogether.
InMotion Creating a site
Want to use WordPress? The good news - InMotion gives you the most up-to-date methods to get it up and running.
For example, you can choose to preinstall it from the signup form. InMotion's Account Management Panel (AMP) has a popular Install Software feature with options to install WordPress or BoldGrid (a WordPress-based website builder). Both AMP and cPanel provide access to Softaculous, a powerful platform that automates the installation of WordPress, Magento. PrestaShop, Drupal, and hundreds of other web apps.
InMotion's cPanel setup includes all the regular tools you need to upload an existing website: FTP, SSH, a browser-based file manager, domain management tools, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, and more.
However, if you need some help, InMotion can transfer an existing site for you. It should be free for simple sites but is more likely to be chargeable for more complex projects. InMotion's AMP has a website transfer request form where you can provide more information about your current website, allowing the company to quote you.
InMotion Performance
It's difficult to benchmark web host performance because there are so many factors involved, but we did some tests to get a feel for InMotion Hosting's capabilities.
We began using UpTime.com to monitor a simple template site every five minutes from multiple locations, for a week, to check uptime and record response times.
The results were mixed. Uptime was 100%, as we would expect in a relatively short trial period. Uptime.com recorded two very high response times, the highest being 1.48 seconds. But that's only two samples out of over 2,000, and the rest were much better, giving an average response time of 290ms. In our most recent tests, the basic shared hosting products managed an average response time of 200-400ms, placing InMotion Hosting comfortably in the middle of the pack.
While these figures look a bit general, it's important to put them in perspective: These are the results of a short-term test on a single server handling InMotion's cheapest shared hosting plan. It's possible that they aren't representative of long-term performance, and they say nothing about the speed you'll see with a VPS or shared plans.
To round out our tests, we also checked the site's performance through Bitcatcha's Server Speed Test. A one-time benchmark like this can't compete with UpTime.com's continuous monitoring, but it was interesting to see that our server delivered better results, scoring Bitcatcha's highest possible A+ speed rating.
InMotion Support
If your hosting plan isn't working as you expected, the first place to help is InMotion's support center, where you'll find tons of content: FAQs, product guides, tutorials, 'educational channels', YouTube Channels, web forums, and assorted web-based tools and other resources.
Drill into an individual product area and you'll find the same depth. For example, the WordPress hosting section has links to over 50 articles, ranging from installing WordPress to logging in to the WordPress dashboard to geek-level options such as creating your WordPress plugin.
The search box enables a search of content by keyword. We tried different keywords and phrases and found that the engine did a good job of identifying the most relevant results and sorting them in a sensible order.
Personal articles are packed with general information. For example, 'Getting started with email' gives you advice on how to create and access accounts, includes the settings you need, setup instructions for many email clients, and links to related topics, such as that spam protection.
If the website can't help, there is 24/7/365 support available via email, phone, and live chat.
We tried a test question and found that the agent was quick, helpful, took responsibility instead of pointing us elsewhere ("turn away and check out this link"), and resolved our issue with no difficulty. We felt like we were talking to someone with significant technical knowledge that could help us troubleshoot more complex issues, a vast improvement over the basic outsourced support teams you'll often find elsewhere.
InMotion Final Call
We love the features, the support, the 90-day money-back guarantee, but the best part of InMotion is it seems to be a reliable, professional, honest web hosting company that isn't trying to rip you off.
